Roanoke County Names Library Services Director

May 5, 2017 – Roanoke County Administrator Thomas Gates today announced the appointment of Shari Henry as Director of Library Services.

“I’m pleased to welcome Shari to Roanoke County,” said Gates. "Shari is knowledgeable of the latest trends and technology used by state-of-the-art library systems, and she has the strategic vision to ensure the library system is an integral part of life-long learning in our community.”

Henry currently serves as Division Chief of Materials Management for Arlington Public Library in Arlington, VA.

“I am honored to be selected to serve Roanoke County as Director of Library Services, and excited to be joining the Roanoke County community,” said Henry. “I look forward to working alongside library and county staff, and getting to know library patrons and the people in the region.”

Henry brings 10 years of experience in all aspects of Library Services. Prior to joining Arlington Public Library, Henry served in managerial positions with library systems in Appomattox and Chesterfield. Her expertise includes overseeing a $1.4 million budget, advising at the White House on the President’s Open e-Book initiative, managing a library branch in a large metropolitan area, and fundraising.

Henry holds a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Clarion University and a Bachelor’s Degree in History from George Mason University. She also holds a certificate in Fundraising and Development from the University of Richmond.

Henry follows Diana Rosapepe who served more than 30 years as director until retiring in December.

Henry and her husband Tim will be relocating to Roanoke County. Henry will assume her new position June 5.
