We are looking for seasoned 911 telecommunicators to join the Roanoke County Emergency Communications Center (ECC) team. In order to be considered for this type of transition into the ECC, you must contact our Training Coordinator by email or at 540-777-8661 and meet several pre-employment requirements.
Relocating to the Roanoke Valley?
Roanoke is the largest municipality in Southwest Virginia and serves as a commercial and cultural hub. However, Roanoke residents only spend an average of 20 minutes commuting to work despite the Roanoke Valley comprising almost 2,000 square miles. The Roanoke Valley offers many opportunities for individual and family recreation including the Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, Green Ridge Center, regional greenways, and local parks.
We offer a variety of housing opportunities and other relocation information available through Roanoke County Economic Development. In addition, Roanoke County boasts one of the best school systems in the United States. Roanoke County Schools regularly post information regarding student enrollment, performance, and recognition.
Looking for a New Challenge?
If you are looking for a growth opportunity, we would like you to consider joining our team. We pride ourselves on our diversity, self-direction, compassion, multi-tasking, and team atmosphere. We have an ongoing commitment to training and maintaining healthy and happy Communications Officers in the Blue Ridge Region. We are dedicated to constantly improving our operations through our Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies accreditation process. Please consult our suitability questionnaire to determine if you are ready to join us in Answering the Call.
Applicants can be considered for a lateral transition into the ECC, which bypasses our biannual Career Day process. Only applicants with prior 911 experience will be considered for a lateral transition. In order to qualify for a lateral transition, an applicant must possess proof of current certification or equivalent in the following areas:
- Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
- American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Basic Dispatch Academy
- Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Level A
Applicants are encouraged to contact our Chief of Emergency Communications at 540-777-8656 to determine if a current certification, which does not precisely match the above requirements, will be honored.
Upcoming Screening Day
If you do not have prior 911 experience or sufficient proof of current certifications for this type of transition, you can apply to attend our next Initial Screening.
