Who do I contact about a lost pet?

Animals picked up by Roanoke County Animal Control are sheltered at the Regional Center For Animal Care.

How long are animals held at the Regional Center for Animal Care?

Animals with identification are held for 10 days, while animals without identification are held for 5 days. Owners are encouraged to check daily with the center for their lost pet.

What can I do about my neighbor's barking dog?

To report a barking dog, contact Roanoke County Animal Control at (540) 777-8606.

What can I do about my neighbor's cat being a nuisance?

Cats in Roanoke County are free to roam. If a cat comes on to property where it is not wanted and creates a nuisance, the homeowner may contact Roanoke County Animal Control at (540) 777-8606.

How do I register my dog or cat in Roanoke County?

Dog and cat tags are sold through the Roanoke County Treasurers office. The registration year runs from January - December.

What can I do with my pet if I can no longer care for it?

Animal owners may surrender their pet to the Regional Animal Care Center at no charge.

Where can I have my animal spay/neutered?

Roanoke County Animal Control does not provide spay/neuter services. You may contact a local veterinarian for these services.

Where can I get a rabies vaccination for my pet?

Rabies vaccinations are available from local veterinarian offices. Periodically, the Health Department sponsors a Rabies Clinic for local areas. Contact the Health Department at (540) 857-8700 for more information.
