September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!

We’re so glad you’re here and want to sign up for a library card! If you already have a card, stick around on this page. We have something going on this month for you too!

A library card opens up a world of possibilities. Begin your adventure with eBooks, premium databases, and material check outs today. Your library card gives you access to all Roanoke Valley Libraries: Botetourt, City of Roanoke, City of Salem, and Roanoke County. Sign up for one on our website here. 

Each new library card holder during the month of September will get a small gift of fun library items.

We will have pop-up libraries throughout Roanoke County this month. Keep an eye on our social media for details.

About this Year's Honorary Chair, Marley Dias

Marley Dias, founder of #1000BlackGirlBooks, author, and executive producer is taking on a new role as honorary chair of Library Card Sign-Up Month. This September, Dias will join the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide in promoting the power of a library card. 

As honorary chair, Dias will remind the public that signing up for a library card provides access to technology, multimedia content, and educational programming that transforms lives and strengthens communities. “A library card is the ticket you need to travel across the globe. It allows you to experience stories that can connect you to diverse and empowering experiences," said Dias.

Accessing the collection is easy with your library card. Visit a Roanoke County Public Library to check out materials or use our virtual library to check out eBooks, eMagazines, and eAudiobooks. Place items on hold through our catalog or give us a call. So we can verify your information, please have your library card number available.

eCollection

Visit our eCollection to borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines with services like Overdrive (the Libby app), RBDigital, and cloudLibrary. Placing Items on Hold

To place physical items on hold with your library card visit rvl.info or give your favorite Roanoke County Library a call during operating hours. If you’re looking to browse, check out NovelistPlus, available for free with your library card. You can also sign up for our Library Concierge service to receive books each month based on your favorite genres.

Premium Databases and our Virtual Library are available 24/7 and give you access to your library anywhere. Here are some of the databases available:

Consumer Reports provides ratings and buying advice for thousands of products. Find the best buys, most reliable brands, and important safety features.

Mango Languages is an online language-learning system that can help you learn a new language (67 to choose from) at your own pace.

The Washington Post gives unlimited access to their website including real-time access to over 25 sections of multimedia content.
