Purpose
The Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Advisory Committee serves as the advisory body of the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors. The commission acts as a liaison between the Parks and Recreation Director, the Board of Supervisors, and the citizens of the community.
The commission consults with and advises the county administrator, the parks and recreation director, and the Board of Supervisors in matters affecting recreation policies, programs, personnel, finances, and the acquisition and disposal of lands and properties related to the total community recreation program and to its long-range, projected program for recreation.
Composition
The Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Advisory Committee consists of two members from each magisterial district and one member serving as a representative at large. Upon expiration of their original terms of office, each succeeding term shall be for three years. Additionally, in November of 2013, as part of the Explore Park Agreement with the Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority (VFRA), two additional members from the VFRA were appointed to this Commission.
