Apply for a Library Card
Library Card Information
It’s easy to get a library card. If you’re a resident of Virginia, you can receive your free library card from any Roanoke Valley public library or bookmobile.
Applying for a Card
Come to the library, complete an application at the Service Desk. Give the application to a staff member along with identification that includes your current address (driver’s license, check, bank statement, utility bill, etc.). Your library card will be issued immediately and is yours to use at any of the public libraries in the Roanoke Valley.
Please note: Children 12 years of age and under may get a library card with the signature and identification of a parent or guardian. Temporary cards for out-of-state visitors are available for a fee. Ask staff at the circulation desk for more details. Cards must be renewed every two years.
There is a $1 replacement charge for lost or damaged cards.

If you’re a resident of the County of Roanoke and do not have a Roanoke Valley Library Card, you’re eligible for an eCard. (Under 12? You’re eligible too, but your parent or guardian should complete this application for you).
If you already have a physical Roanoke Valley Library card, you don’t need to sign up for an eCard! Your current card can be used for online services. Only one card of either type is permitted per user.
*In order to safeguard our community and slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), Roanoke County Public Library will be closed. An end date has not been established for these changes, but we plan to return to regular operation as soon as conditions allow.
The eLibrary Cards will be valid for 90 days. If an extension is needed, library staff will extend these cards. Find out more information on Coronavirus (COVID-19) here.
