County Attorney’s Office

Function

The Office of the County Attorney provides legal counsel to: 

  • The Board of Supervisors
  • Constitutional Officers
  • County Boards and Commissions
  • County Staff

Upon request the office provides written legal opinions to County officials and staff. 

Duties

The office: 

  • Represents the County in court and in administrative proceedings
  • Drafts and reviews ordinances and resolutions
  • Drafts and reviews contracts, bond documents, and deeds
  • Prepares legislative proposals for submission to the General Assembly
  • Reviews and tracks state legislation which may affect the County's legal rights and obligations

Staff

The office is comprised of four attorneys and one support staff led by the County Attorney, who is appointed by and reports to the Board of Supervisors.
