SALEM – Nighttime detours and lane closures are scheduled for I-81 in Montgomery County beginning Monday, March 25 as part of the ongoing road construction project to build a five-mile truck climbing lane along southbound I- 81 between mile markers 120 and 125.
• Northbound detours will take place on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26. Traffic will be detoured beginning at 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning. Northbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 118 (Christiansburg) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns). In addition, a southbound lane closure will be in place beginning at 9 p.m. on the same dates.
• A southbound detour will take place Wednesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 28. The detour will begin at 9 p.m. each night and end at 6 a.m. the following morning. Southbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 118 (Christiansburg).
Dates and times are tentative and could be adjusted due to weather or work schedule. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert drivers to these traffic detours.
Work on the truck climbing lane project is expected to be completed in November 2013.
