Even More Wonder Coming Your WayWe are excited to announce we’re adding more hours at Glenvar, Hollins, South County and Vinton starting June 1. Staff at the library are making every effort to provide excellent customer service while incorporating current CDC guidelines and protocols set by the governor regarding capacity, masks, and social distancing. As you return to the library you’ll notice things look different, but we are ready to help.
We are aware of new guidelines being rolled out. Please watch our website and social media as we update protocols for the library. Hours: Hours include in-person visits, curbside, and drive-thru (where applicable). 10am-8pm | Monday-Thursday 10am-5pm | Friday & Saturday Reservations are no longer required. Just stop by for all of your browsing and checkout needs. You may reserve a computer by calling ahead (not required), or do so when you visit. To help maintain capacity limitations, we encourage you to limit visits to an hour. Masks are required and will be available for free at the library, along with gloves, hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes.

Choose Kindness, Find Wonder Summer Reading ProgramThis year RCPL invites you to choose kindness, find wonder, and read together by joining our 2021 Summer Reading Program. In 2020 the library launched a community reading goal of 3,000 books. Because we exceeded the goal by over five times, we’ve increased the goal to 10,000 books. Meeting the goal means the Friends of the Roanoke County Public Library, sponsors of our Summer Reading Program, will donate to Feeding Southwest Virginia. Registration begins June 7 and goes through August 6. Patrons of all ages may participate in the program, enjoy many opportunities to win prizes, and help us reach the goal. Everyone who reads three books completes the program and receives a fun, age-specific prize. Plus, this year each RCPL location will hold drawings for one gift basket per age group for participants who complete the program. We will also offer three system-wide grand prizes (one per age group), including a family day gift basket featuring local gift cards and fun activities for children, an Air BnB gift card for adults, and a Nintendo Switch for Teens. To register for this year’s program visit rocolibrary.org. Register through the easy-to-use Beanstack app, the same application used for our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Only one login is required per family. If you’d prefer a paper log you may print one from the website to track your reading, and call or stop by the library for staff to log your books electronically.
