RVL to Improve the Online Experience
Roanoke Valley Libraries (RVL), consisting of libraries in Botetourt County, City of Roanoke, City of Salem, and County of Roanoke, has signed on to implement OCLC Wise, the first community engagement system for public libraries.
All Roanoke County Public Library locations will be closed on Friday, November 4 for a staff training day. Visit rocolibrary.org to access eBooks and databases 24/7.
As all RVL locations prepare for the launch of the new system, there will be a transition period from November 4 through November 11. During this time some transactions will be unavailable or limited as we take a pause on November 4. What does this mean for you?
- You're welcome to come in to the library and check out materials, but they won't show up on your account until the new catalog is live.
- You can still look up items at the library or from home, but you won't be able to request items, edit your account information, or make any changes.
- We are unable to create new library cards during the transition period.
- We are asking that you please keep your library materials until we go live with the new catalog.
- If you return items during the transition period, they'll be tucked away and checked in after the new catalog is live.
- There are no due dates during the transition period and this summer all Roanoke Valley Libraries eliminated late fees.
Library staff appreciates patron patience as they continue to learn Wise.
All eResources like eBooks, eAudiobooks, and databases will be uninterrupted during the transition.
