In Roanoke County we require a land disturbing permit if the disturbance is going to be 2,500 square feet or greater. Land disturbance constitutes
If the disturbance of the project is going to be 10,000 square feet or greater an engineered plan is required. For projects that disturb less than 10,000 square feet an Agreement in Lieu of an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan may be issued at Roanoke County’s discretion.
It is agreement between the landowner and Roanoke County stating that the Virginia Department of Environment Quality Erosion and Sediment Control Regulations will be followed, but an engineered site plan is not required.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) maintains all of the public roads in Roanoke County. To request services from VDOT, please call 1-800-367-7623, or use VDOT’s online work order form to report road conditions or request maintenance.
