How do I renew my library card?: Library cards are renewed automatically renewed every two years. If you have not checked out physical materials in two years then please come and see us during operating hours.

1. How do I renew my library card?: Library cards are renewed automatically renewed every two years. If you have not checked out physical materials in two years then please come and see us during operating hours.

2. Does a parent/guardian have to be with a child to get a card?: Yes, they will need a parent/guardian to get a library card. Children 17 years of age and under may get a library card with the signature and identification of a parent or guardian.

3. Where can I use my library card?: Your library card gives you access to all Roanoke Valley Libraries: Botetourt County, City of Roanoke, City of Salem, and Roanoke County. Find hours of operation, address, and more here.

4. How do I get a library card?: It's easy to get a library card! If you're a resident of Virginia (not just in the Roanoke Valley), you are eligible for a card. Bring in proof of address and we can get you a card!

5. Can I get a library card if I am not living in Virginia?: No, you must have a Virginia address to get a library card.

6. How do I look up my library card number?: You can call or visit any of our locations for assistance.

7. What if I have lost my library card or it is damaged?: No worries! There is a $1 replacement charge for lost or damaged cards. We can assist you at any location with replacing the card.

8. I used to have a library card, how do I know that it is in good standing?: Stop by and see us and we can look your account up. We will do our best to make sure you have access to our materials.

9. Are there late fees?: Effective July 1, 2022, overdue fines will no longer be charged on materials checked out at any Roanoke Valley Library branches, and that old fines accrued prior to that date will be canceled. The only case where patrons will be charged for items is if they are lost or damaged while checked out. Most items are considered lost after 28-days.

10. How do I renew a book?: Material is due back in the library or in the return book drop on or before the specified due date unless renewed. Renewals may be made in person, by telephone or online.

12. How do I log into the library catalog?

If it is your first time using the online catalog you can follow these steps. When you received your library card a temporary password was provided. If you cannot find this password, give us a call and we can help!

If you have logged in before but forgot your password, visit rvl.info click on My Account then the Request new password link. A new password will be sent to your provided email.
