Yes, they will need a parent/guardian to get a library card. Children 17 years of age and under may get a library card with the signature and identification of a parent or guardian.

Library cards are renewed automatically renewed every two years. If you have not checked out physical materials in two years then please come and see us during operating hours.

Effective July 1, 2022, overdue fines will no longer be charged on materials checked out at any Roanoke Valley Library branches, and that old fines accrued prior to that date will be canceled. The only case where patrons will be charged for items is if they are lost or damaged while checked out. Most items are considered lost after 28-days.
Material is due back in the library or in the return book drop on or before the specified due date unless renewed. Renewals may be made in person, by telephone or online.
