Wonder Packs for Kids!

Creative and imaginative activities designed with your developing child in mind. Come by any Roanoke County library to pick up your pack. Supplies are limited and available first come, first serve. Ideal for toddlers and early elementary age children.

Winter Reading Program

From January 11th to March 5th, Roanoke County Public Library will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, sponsored by Simon & Schuster. Books Like Us is a celebration of diversity, harnessing the transformative power of seeing oneself reflected in a book. This Winter, participating communities are invited to explore these books, from authors spanning an array of diverse backgrounds. We challenge our patrons to read at least 2 books before March 5th and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site at rocolibrary.beanstack.org.

MLK: In His Own Words

Join us as we celebrate what would be Martin Luther King Jr.’s 92nd birthday, as we discuss five of his most famous speeches and his Letter from Birmingham Jail. Upon registration, you will receive a link to videos for the five speeches (ranging from about two minutes to almost an hour in length), and texts for all the materials. We’ll talk about our perception of the most famous quotes outside of, and within, the context of the larger works. We’ll compare the way his words were perceived in the 1960s to today, the impact of his delivery, and the legacy he has left behind. Register on our website to partake in this event.
