West Main Street (Route 11/Route 460) at Dow Hollow Road Intersection Improvements

Project Status

The West Main Street at Dow Hollow Road Intersection Improvements project implements the 2012 Glenvar Community Plan. The Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment funded a study conducted by Whitman, Requardt & Associates for the West Main Street corridor between Pleasant Run Drive and Fallbrooke Drive to identify potential safety improvements.

The resulting project was submitted by the Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization (RVTPO) in August 2024 with the following components:

Install a two-lane-wide peanut-style roundabout to improve traffic flow and safety at the West Main Street intersections at Dow Hollow Road and at Fallbrooke Drive while also providing access to vacant property across from Dow Hollow Road; and
Approaching speed limit from both directions would be reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph.

The RVTPO approved $4 million in Surface Transportation Block Grant leverage funding for this project.

The staff recommended SMART SCALE scenario will be released in January 2025 with final funding decisions determined by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in June 2025.
