Roanoke County Emergency Communications Center (ECC) recognizes the importance of emergency preparedness and the critical role that school-age children play in disseminating information to families. Therefore, we have partnered with Roanoke County Schools to bring 911 education to children in our service community. Through interactive opportunities with our Ferra Fox mascot, children are educated about when to call 911 or seek other assistance.
With the rising proliferation of cellular telephones, children need to be educated about a variety of touch screen interfaces to contact 911. Our education program provides children with step-by-step instructions and demonstrations of the proper way to contact 911 from a landline or cellular telephone. In conjunction with Roanoke County schoolteachers, we help children learn their critical, identifying information to provide a 911 operator during an emergency.
Roanoke County ECC is committed to educating our entire service community about emergency preparedness and calling 911. We look forward to new opportunities with our private schools and home schooled children soon. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation at your school, please email Paige DeSilvey for more information.
