Real Estate Records
Each Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in Virginia holds only those records pertaining to actions or filings in the jurisdiction of that Circuit Court. For example, only those marriage licenses issued in Roanoke County are recorded in Roanoke County. Particularly when researching land, estate and will records, you may find that the trail of records flows from one locality to another. The staff of this office will be happy to provide you with information on how to contact other Offices of Clerks of Circuit Court in Virginia.
-Effective July 1, 2020, The Virginia Outdoors Foundation (VOF) fee will increase to $3.00 on each Land Record Instrument. The Library of Virginia fee will increase to $3.50.
-Effective January 1, 2020, The Supreme Court of Virginia and the Department of Taxation will be requiring the tax map number to be in the following format for Roanoke County:
It must be correct on both the document and the coversheet. If it is not correct on both, then the document will be rejected. This is for documents to be recorded on the Deed Desk that require a tax map number.
-Effective December 1, 2019, If you need your document returned to you immediately after recordation and it is not a multi-jurisdictional document that needs to go to the next locality or a power of attorney; we will be collecting the per page copy fee to do so. The money can be deducted from your copy account or added to the recordation cost.
-Effective June 1, 2017 - Due to increasing concerns with the legality of documents being submitted for recording, we can no longer allow faxed or emailed changes (to be printed out in-house) to these documents, nor can a "runner" make changes to them.
Further, we cannot be a party to the preparation of documents (i.e. coversheets, etc.) being submitted to our office for recording.
Of course, until documents have been submitted for recording, the principles or their attorneys can make changes to them.
-Effective July 1, 2017 - A $1 Virginia Outdoors Foundation (VOF) fee will be charged on each Land Record Instrument.
