In 1992 the Board of Supervisor approved a reduced tax rate for Disabled Veterans on one motor vehicle owned and regularly used by the veteran. This reduced rate is available to taxpayers who qualified under provisions of Code of Virginia, Title 58.1.3506 and Roanoke County Ordinance 121592-11. These provisions are as follows:
- A Disabled Veteran who has been certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs to have a 100% service-connected, permanent and total disability, or 100% by means of individual un-employability, service connected, permanently and totally disabled.
- You must submit a copy of your letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs certifying this disability to our office.
However - if you currently have a Disabled Veterans license plate on your vehicle issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) we do not need the above letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs to qualify you for the Disable Veterans Personal Property tax rate.
