
The Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a four-hour Citizen Firearm Safety Course in exchange for food donations to local charities.
About the Class
This course will be classroom based and will deal with firearm safety, storage, proper weapon manipulation, and malfunctions, along with issues and responsibilities associated with firearm ownership and the Code of Virginia. Citizens will be given a certificate that can be used when applying for a Concealed Weapons Permit.
The cost of this course is 10 canned goods or non-perishable items which will be collected at the beginning of class. Due to COVID-19, the class size is now restricted to 25 people. Registration will be handled on a first come/first served basis, with more classes being scheduled in the future as these fill. Classes are scheduled for November 18 and December 16, 2023. Classes for 2024 are scheduled on January 27, February 24, March 30, April 27, May 18 and June 22. Class begins at 0830 at the Roanoke County Criminal Justice Academy, which has room to allow proper social distancing. The address is 5401 B Barns Ave. Roanoke, VA 24019.
