About the Office

Sheriff Joseph E. Orange welcomes you to the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office official Web Page. Since 1838, the Office of the Sheriff has proudly served the citizens of Roanoke County. Our deputies provide three main areas of service to the community - corrections, court security, and civil process. The Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office has a total of 101 including sworn, part time and civilian personnel.

Fingerprinting:

The Roanoke County Sheriff's Office does in person fingerprinting in the Jail Lobby. The hours are M-W-F from 8-12, T-Th 12-4, and the cost is $5 per card after ID is checked.

Jury, DNA and Sheriff Sales Scam Alerts

Please be aware that there have been new attempts to scam residents into believing that they have missed jury duty and must pay a fine. Another scam is charging people for information about Sheriff's Sales. Our department has no affiliation with any such companies. There is also a scam involving court-ordered DNA testing.  The scam attempts are coming from multiple phone numbers, including: 540-986-4060 and 540-491-4320, ext. 2. The Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office will not call citizens to request money to be paid for undone DNA testing, outstanding warrants or failure to meet jury duty obligations. In the event that you are contacted by these individuals, please contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately at 540-283-3145 or the Roanoke County Police Department at 562-3265
