[ARCHIVED] County Police Invites Public to Fallen Officer Memorial Service

ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (May 7, 2014) – Roanoke Valley’s police and public safety officers will gather to recognize the service and dedication of the area’s fallen officers this year at the annual Roanoke Valley Police Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 13, 2014.

The service will be hosted at Melrose Baptist Church, 3520 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019 and will begin at 7:00 p.m. This memorial service will honor the service and dedication of our valley’s fallen officers. In 1962 President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls National Police week, with the first National Memorial Service held on May 15, 1982 in Washington D.C.

Since that time memorial services have been held each year to honor these brave men and women. The families of these brave officers have not only endured the complexity of their work, but have experienced great pain and suffering because of the loss of their loved one.

The memorial service is open to the general public and free to all. You do not have to be a Roanoke Valley resident to attend, and family members from outside the Roanoke Valley are welcome. There will be light refreshments served after the program.
