[ARCHIVED] Roanoke County Attorney Set to Retire

Roanoke County Attorney Paul Mahoney announced Monday that he will be retiring, effective December 1. Mahoney submitted his retirement letter to Board Chairman Jason Peters last week.

“I have enjoyed a long career serving in Roanoke County,” said Mahoney. “Over my 31 years here in the County, I have had the opportunity to work with many dedicated and skilled people. Together, we have accomplished many good things to make Roanoke a better place to live and work, and to improve the lives of our citizens.”

Chairman Peters added, “I am saddened to see Paul leave Roanoke County. Even though I have only worked with Paul since January 2013, I have come to appreciate and admire his love for his work, his family, and for Roanoke County. It is rare to find someone who is dedicated to a position for over 30 years.”

Prior to his move to Roanoke County in 1984, Mahoney served as County Attorney in Montgomery County from 1979-1984. Before that, he was in private practice in Falls Church, and also served as assistant city attorney in Falls Church after graduating from law school in 1975.
