[ARCHIVED] Identity Released of Body Recovered from Roanoke River

September 29, 2015 – The body recovered from the Roanoke River Saturday has been identified as 63-year old Joseph Lynn Salmon.

On September 21, Mr. Salmon’s vehicle was located in the parking area near the Roanoke River Overlook. The National Park Service and Roanoke County Fire and Rescue conducted a search lasting several days. Family members and acquaintances also had not heard from Mr. Salmon.

Roanoke County Police responded this past Saturday to a report of a male body discovered by kayakers in the Roanoke River, near Explore Park. Roanoke Fire-EMS Swift Water Team and Roanoke County Fire and Rescue extracted the body and it was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for identification.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.
