[ARCHIVED] 419 Town Center Draft Plan to be Revealed

419 Town Center Plan Concept
The final 419 Town Center community meeting to reveal the draft plan is scheduled for March 23. The planning team will present the components of the draft plan, including implementation, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.. The draft plan is a culmination of ideas and strategies based on both market opportunities and the engagement of hundreds of residents and stakeholders over the past six months.

The presentation will reveal:
  • Redevelopment scenarios for specific places in the study area;
  • Transportation improvements to make the entire area more walkable, bikeable, accessible and connected;
  • Public space improvements; and
  • A phasing strategy to identify near- and long-term development approaches.

The 419 Town Center Plan will include market analysis resources for land owners, developers and the County, including information about retail market demand, residential market demand, economic development potential and new investment opportunities.

The draft Plan will be available for public comment online and in hardcopy in County libraries from March 23 to April 21. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing for the Plan on May 2, followed later by a work session for the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors and a public hearing for the Board of Supervisors to consider adoption of the Plan.

There will be time for participants to review the complete list of strategies and weigh in on which are most important! Members of the public who have and have not been engaged in the study are encouraged to attend. CORTRAN and STAR service will be extended until 9 p.m.

In September 2016, Roanoke County hired Stantec to study 390 acres in the Route 419 area near Tanglewood Mall. The 419 Town Center study will result in a market-based plan that incorporates community input and collaboration to enable stronger investments in the County’s economic future.
