[ARCHIVED] Update on the RVRA Tipper at Smith Gap Landfill

(January 3, 2019) The parts for the tipper have been delivered to the Smith Gap Landfill and the contractor is on-site installing and will begin testing the repairs after installation.

Provided all repairs go as planned, the tipper is projected to be operational by mid-week next week and normal operations are expected to resume. Normal operations will eliminate the use of the tractor trailer trucks on Bradshaw Road to haul the region's solid waste to the landfill.

While the tipper repairs are being conducted, the rail tankers used to haul the landfill's leachate are inaccessible. Therefore, leachate trucks will be used to haul leachate via Bradshaw Road to Northfork Road on Thursday, January 3 and Friday, January 4. After the tipper is repaired, the use of rail tankers to haul the leachate will resume.
