(Roanoke County, VA—March 12, 2019) Roanoke County will share the first draft of the Hollins Center Plan at two open house meetings this month. The focus of the meetings will be the draft Plan’s vision, strategy and recommendations, shown through design concepts and specific projects. The meetings will be held at the Hollins Branch Public Library located at 6624 Peters Creek Road on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Monday, March 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. CORTRAN and STAR service is available for these meetings.

Roanoke County is asking citizens to consider and help prioritize projects to encourage a walkable, connected and active community center over the next 20 years. Potential projects will include public space and landscaping concepts, various park improvements and a range of multimodal transportation improvements. Participants will be able to review the draft Plan’s vision and implementation principles for new development and redevelopment, and also weigh in on future land use scenarios that will guide the type of development to be encouraged in the area.

Anyone who cannot attend the meetings will still be able to complete the exercises online at roanokecountyva.gov/Hollins during the one-month public comment period, open March 23 through April 26.

The draft Plan’s recommendations are based on feedback from stakeholders and community members. Nearly 160 members of the public attended four community meetings in 2018 and hundreds of survey responses were collected for the planning study.

The “Reimagine Hollins” effort seeks to improve the study area’s 465 acres stretching from portions of Williamson Road, Peters Creek Road and Plantation Road up to Interstate 81. The area is comprised of more than 270 commercial and residential properties. The Hollins Magisterial District has the highest population density in Roanoke County.
