[ARCHIVED] 19th Amendment Centennial Celebration

Centennial Celebration

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, and August has been named National Women’s Suffrage month. To celebrate, Library Director, Shari Henry, interviewed several women leaders in our community, many of whom will be joining us online for a conversation at 6:30pm on Tuesday, August 25 to discuss what voting means to them, tell us about the female role models that helped shape their lives, offer words of wisdom to young women, and more.

The evening promises to be informative and inspirational. The panelists include:

Trish Boyd-White, Roanoke City Council
Freeda Cathcart, Soil and Water Conservation Director
Rabbi Kathy Cohen, Rabbi, Temple Emanuel in Roanoke
Abby Hamilton, President & CEO, United Way of Roanoke Valley
Martha Hooker, Roanoke County Board of Supervisors (Catawba District)
Kat Pascal, Entrepreneur and Co-Founder, FarmBurguesa
Janet Scheid, Former Vinton Council Member
Lisa Spencer, Executive Director, Local Colors
Joyce Waugh, President & CEO, Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce

We will premiere the videos of the interviews Friday, August 21 through Monday, August 24, each at 7:00pm. Videos will premiere on our Facebook page and YouTube Channel. Follow us @rocopublib.
