[ARCHIVED] SNOW SHOWERS COULD MEAN SLICK ROADS OVERNIGHT IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS

SALEM – With snow showers in the forecast, drivers should be alert to the potential for slick roads this evening and overnight, particularly in the higher elevations and along the western-facing mountain slopes. Motorists should also be aware of the possibility of downed trees or debris in roadways as high winds are reported throughout southwestern Virginia.

For the Salem Transportation District, reduced Virginia Department of Transportation crews in the New River Valley and Hillsville area will be on standby overnight to monitor road conditions and respond as needed.

The Salem District includes the counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Henry, Giles, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke.

For the latest information on road conditions, call 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.

To report downed trees or hazardous road conditions, call VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
