[ARCHIVED] Informal Real Estate Value Appeals Available Jan. 24-30

Reassessment notices are mailed to property owners in January of each year. If there is a question about the property value, the owner may schedule an appointment with the appraiser assigned to their neighborhood. This is considered an informal appeal and appointments may be scheduled by calling the Real Estate Valuation office at (540) 772-2035 ext. 0.

Property owners can use an informal appeal to ensure correct information about their property, and ask questions concerning the appraisal process. It is not required that an informal appeal precede a formal appeal before the Board of Equalization. Informal appeal dates typically include one Saturday and one weekday evening for the convenience of our citizens.

Informal appeals will be held in the Real Estate Valuation offices at 5204 Bernard Drive, Roanoke, VA on the second floor. The dates and times below are available for individuals to discuss their property assessments with the staff assessors.

Thursday, January 24, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Friday, January 25, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Saturday, January 26, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Monday, January 28, 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Tuesday, January 29, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Wednesday, January 30, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Please remember that an informal assessment appeal is not a means to lodge a complaint about higher taxes. It is an opportunity for the taxpayer to review their property to ensure proper market value, accuracy and the equalization to other similar properties.
