[ARCHIVED] Roanoke County Police Accepting Applications for Citizens Police Academy

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (March 11, 2013) – The Roanoke County Police Department is currently accepting applications for its next Citizens Police Academy. The Academy begins April 2 and lasts 13 weeks.

The Roanoke County Police Department was the first law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia to offer this opportunity to citizens. The goal is to educate citizens on why and how the Roanoke County Police Department carries out its mission.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, or be enrolled in a Roanoke County High School and have parental permission. Residents of Roanoke County are given first consideration but all citizens are welcome to apply.

Citizens Police Academy applications are available on the Roanoke County website at or in the lobby of the Roanoke County Public Safety Center located at 5925 Cove Road, Roanoke, VA, 24019 and the Roanoke County Administration Center at 5204 Bernard Drive, Roanoke, VA, 24018.
