SALEM – The previously announced schedule for this week’s Interstate 81 detours and lane closures as part of the ongoing project to construct a truck climbing lane in Montgomery County has been revised. The project is being built along southbound I-81 between mile markers 120 and 125.
The revised schedule is as follows:
Northbound detours will take place on Wednesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 28. Traffic will be detoured beginning at 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning. Northbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 118 (Christiansburg) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns).
A southbound detour will take place Monday, April 1 and Tuesday, April 2. The detour will begin at 10 p.m. each night and end at 6 a.m. the following morning. Southbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 118 (Christiansburg).
Southbound lane closures will take place Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4. The closures will begin at 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning.
Dates and times are tentative and could be adjusted due to weather or work schedule. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert drivers to these traffic detours and lane closures.
Work on the truck climbing lane project is expected to be completed in November 2013.
