SALEM – Beginning Sunday, April 7, nighttime detours and lane closures are scheduled for northbound Interstate 81 as part of the ongoing road construction project to build a five-mile truck climbing lane along southbound I- 81 in Montgomery County between mile markers 120 and 125.
A southbound detour will take place Sunday, April 7. The detour will begin at 10 p.m. each night and end at 6 a.m. the following morning. Southbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 118 (Christiansburg).
Southbound lane closures will take place Monday, April 8 through Thursday, April 11. The closures will begin at 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning.
Dates and times are tentative and could be adjusted due to weather or work schedule. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert drivers to these traffic detours and lane closures.
Work on the truck climbing lane project is expected to be completed in November 2013.
