ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (June 7, 2013) – Roanoke County Public Safety Departments, including Fire & Rescue, Police, Sheriff's Office, and the Emergency Communications Center, will participate in tabletop exercises over the next five weeks. There are five training days scheduled throughout the rest of June and the first part of July when a hypothetical emergency response scenario will take place.
The participants will include decision-making level personnel from each department gathered around a table to discuss protocols and procedures in the context of emergency scenarios. The planned drills will simulate emergency situations that may include hostages, gun-shot victims, building collapses and the like. Personnel will be using training tactical channels on the county’s radio communications system. It is not likely, but the radio traffic may be heard by citizens or media having scanners. The scheduled days for the table-top training exercise are listed below. The training could begin as early as 8 a.m. and should end no later than 5 p.m. on each day.
• Friday, June 7
• Wednesday, June 12
