SALEM – As part of the Route 221 widening project on Bent Mountain in Roanoke County, a new traffic pattern will be in place beginning Thursday, Aug. 29.
On this date, the contractor will begin work at 8:30 a.m. to move north and southbound traffic to the new northbound lanes and bridges over Back Creek. They expect to have the switch completed by early afternoon. Flaggers may periodically control traffic during this time.
Once the traffic switch has been implemented, two-way traffic will use the northbound lanes. This traffic pattern will be in place until the project nears completion.
Switching traffic will allow the contractor to finish the remaining work in the southbound lanes with minimal traffic impacts.
Message boards are in place to alert drivers of the upcoming change.
This work is dependent upon weather and work schedule.
The $20.1- million project is expected to be complete in fall 2013.
