SALEM – As part of the ongoing construction on the truck-climbing lane project on southbound Interstate 81 between mile markers 120 and 125 in Montgomery County, traffic will be reduced to one lane on southbound I-81 near mile marker 125 tonight, Thursday, Sept. 19, starting at 8 p.m., weather permitting.
The lane closure is expected to remain in place until 6 a.m. Friday morning. Traffic also may be slowed at times overnight using rolling roadblocks in this work zone.
The overnight lane closure is needed for the project contractor to put a new traffic pattern in place at the top of Christiansburg Mountain.
On Friday, Sept. 20, drivers should pay particular attention to pavement markings and signs at the beginning of the new three-lane section of roadway as traffic patterns will have changed.
Work on the truck climbing lane project is expected to be completed in November 2013. For traffic information and updates, visit www.511Virginia.org.
