ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (October 4, 2013) – Roanoke County Police Department will be hosting its National Night Out program on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM at the Roanoke County Public Safety Building located at 5925 Cove Road, Roanoke, Virginia, 24019.
This free and family-friendly event is part of a nationwide series of community gatherings to highlight crime prevention, promote partnerships between the police and the community, and foster fellowship between neighbors. Roanoke County’s Honor Guard will be on hand to open the events at 6:00 PM with the presentation of colors and the National Anthem.
Free food and refreshments will be provided and door prizes will be given out throughout the evening to attendees present at the drawings.
Roanoke County Police Department will also sponsor a variety of programs and displays to entertain the entire family, including presentations by Roanoke County Police and Roanoke County Fire & Rescue personnel. Attendees will be able to interact with Roanoke County’s K-9 officers, bicycle patrol officers, and S.W.A.T. members. Representatives from other local Police Departments will be present to provide a police car display and McGruff the Crime Dog will be on site to visit with the children and adults.
“This is one way that we can give back to the community and recognize all of the support that each of you give us throughout the year,” Community Policing Coordinator Rick Crozier said. “We really hope to see a great community turn out for this event.”
National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” began in 1984 to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The first National Night Out took place on Tuesday, August 7th 1984, with 2.5 million Americans taking part across 400 communities in 23 states.
