(ROANOKE COUNTY) November 21, 2013—Roanoke County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the 4900 block of Catawba Creek Road at 12:45 this morning for a reported structure fire.
When fire crews first arrived they reported smoke showing from the front door and eaves of a two-story wood framed house. Career and volunteer firefighters from the Catawba, Masons Cove, Fort Lewis and Hollins stations had the fire under control in about 30 minutes. The fire caused extensive damage to the first floor with smoke and heat damage to the second floor.
An adult female occupant of the home was transported to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation. Reportedly, a couple lived in the home and both escaped on their own and went to the neighbor’s house. They have family in the area and will be staying with them while they are displaced.
A neighbor called 911 to report seeing the smoke and flames.
Investigators are on scene.
