SALEM — The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a citizen information meeting on a project to complete the partial interchange on Interstate 581’s exit 3C (Valley View Boulevard) in Roanoke. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at William Fleming High School located at 3649 Ferncliff Avenue, NW, in Roanoke.
The project includes completing the partial interchange at I-581 and Valley View Boulevard by building an off-ramp from southbound I-581 onto Valley View Boulevard and an on-ramp from Valley View Boulevard onto northbound I-581. In addition, the bridge over I-581 will be widened to four lanes with turn lanes onto the I-581 ramps, a new pedestrian bridge for the Lick Run Greenway over I-581 will be built and sound walls will be installed along portions of I-581. The project also includes constructing diverging diamond interchange which will require improvements to the existing off and on ramps.
The citizen information meeting is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project. The meeting will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.
Project information and environmental documentation in the form of a Categorical Exclusion and Reevaluation will be available at the meeting or at VDOT’s Salem District Office located at 731 Harrison Avenue in Salem. Public comment is invited on a proposed de minimis finding for the impacts of the project on a section of the Lick Run Greenway under provisions of 23 CFR 774 (Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act).
