(ROANOKE COUNTY, Va.) January 27, 2014 – Roanoke County staff will host a series of public meetings this February to educate residents on recent and ongoing changes in state stormwater requirements that are impacting the County.
Over the past several months, Roanoke County’s Stormwater Advisory Committee hosted public meetings across the County and the Town of Vinton to discuss stormwater management issues and receive citizen input on how best to accommodate the new state and federal standards. This committee has been charged with developing and presenting recommendations to the Board of Supervisors concerning the County’s ongoing stormwater management program.
At the upcoming February meetings, the Roanoke County staff and the consultant will present the Stormwater Advisory Committee (SWAC) draft recommendations for public consideration. The public will also have the opportunity to provide comments on the draft plan before the SWAC finalizes its recommendations to the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors.
These recommendations will include stormwater management priorities; appropriate and affordable levels of service; level of interest in public participation in stormwater management program activities; preliminary needs assessments; preliminary regulations and policies; and preliminary financial requirements along with funding mechanisms.
The Roanoke County Stormwater Advisory Committee is comprised of community stakeholders that represent the interests of residents, businesses and non-profit organizations across Roanoke County and the Town of Vinton.
The public meetings will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm as listed below.
