Roanoke Valley Libraries (RVL) – a consortium that includes libraries in Roanoke County, Roanoke City, Salem, and Botetourt County – has expanded its services to offer free downloadable audiobooks and eBooks. Library card holders can check out and download digital media anytime, anywhere by visiting http://elib.rvl.info. Powered by the popular OverDrive service, all that’s required is an Internet connection to a PC, Mac®, or compatible mobile device; a Roanoke Valley Libraries patron card; and a free online program that interfaces with OverDrive.
In three simple steps, patrons can browse, download, and enjoy. Titles downloaded to a home computer can be used immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including Sony® Reader™, NOOK™, most Apple and Android products, and many others. Compatibility with Amazon’s Kindle is expected later this year. Some audio titles can also be burned to CD to listen on-the-go. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!
This new service, powered by OverDrive, is free for patrons with a valid library card. OverDrive is a leading full-service distributor of eBooks, audiobooks, and other digital products. Founded in 1986, OverDrive is based in Cleveland, OH.
