[ARCHIVED] Suspicious Container Found Near County Building Deemed Safe

ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (May 2, 2014) – The suspicious container found near a fire hydrant in front of the Roanoke County Administration building Friday afternoon was found to be a solid black, plastic storage tote with clothing inside.

The call was reported to dispatch at 3:06 p.m. and Roanoke County police responded. As a precaution, a portion of Electric Road and cross-streets near the Administration building were closed and nearby businesses evacuated.

An explosives-sniffing dog inspected the container and found no threat. After investigation of the container, police have learned who the owner is and that the storage tote fell inadvertently from the back of the individual's vehicle while driving past the Administration building.

The individual has retrieved the storage tote from police.
