[ARCHIVED] Salem District Announces Public Hearing on Draft Six-Year Improvement Program

SALEM — The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem District will host a public hearing Monday, May 19 at 6 p.m. to receive public comments on the draft Six-Year Improvement Program. The hearing will be held at Northside High School located at 6758 Northside High School Road in Roanoke.

The Six-Year Improvement Program is the transportation spending plan that allocates funding to highway, bridge, rail, transit, transportation demand management, bicycle and pedestrian projects across the state over the next six fiscal years beginning July 1, 2014. The program is updated each year to reflect the latest revenue projections and other priorities. The draft program is posted online at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/syp-default.asp.

Transportation Secretary Aubrey Layne will be joined by officials from the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation to receive public comments on the draft program. The hearing will provide the public with an opportunity to share comments, which will be taken into consideration prior to the Commonwealth Transportation Board approving the final six-year program in June 2014.
