[ARCHIVED] Traffic Alert: Detour Scheduled for Route 311 in Roanoke County for Work on Rock Slope

SALEM – The Virginia Department of Transportation has scheduled a traffic detour for Route 311 (Catawba Valley Drive) in Roanoke County. The detour will begin on Monday, Aug. 11 at 8 a.m. and is anticipated to remain in place for seven to 10 days.

All northbound Route 311 traffic will be detoured onto Route 740 (Carvins Cove Road) and Route 912 (Absalom Smith Road) to return to Route 311. Southbound Route 311 traffic will be controlled using flaggers.

VDOT crews will be working to remove rock and debris from a slope on Route 311 near its intersection with Route 740 (Carvins Cove Road). Once work begins, crews will continue working around the clock until the rock slope is cut back and stabilized. An exact time for completing the work and removing the detour has not been established.

Residents who live along the detour route should expect traffic congestion and delays, especially during peak travel times. Route 311 motorists should allow extra travel time to reach their destinations.
