[ARCHIVED] VDOT Schedules Public Hearing for East Main Street Improvements in Salem

SALEM —The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing for a proposed project to improve a section of East Main Street (Route 460) in Salem. The section of East Main Street starts at Route 311 (Thompson Memorial Drive) and extends 1.26 miles to just east of Kessler Mill Road.

The proposed project will add turn lanes at various locations on East Main Street and includes adding curbing, constructing bike lanes and installing a new signal at Lynchburg Turnpike.

The hearing will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the South Salem Elementary School located at 1600 Carolyn Road in Salem.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project. The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

Comments about the proposed project may be submitted at the hearing or until October 19 by mailing them to Mr. Kelly Dunn, PE, LS, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 3071, Salem, VA 24153. Comments also can be emailed to saleminfo@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “East Main Street Salem Public Hearing Comment” in the subject heading.
