[ARCHIVED] Roanoke County Sheriff Warns Citizens About Area Scams

Roanoke County Sheriff

The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office has received numerous complaints from their citizens involving a phone scam of callers claiming to be deputy sheriffs. The callers advise the citizen that they’ve failed to comply with a subpoena for jury duty and are subject to fines or arrest.

The callers are asking that the citizen meet with them after-hours outside of the sheriff’s office and to bring their driver’s license and social security card. Please be advised that while the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office has not received any complaints about this type of scam, citizens should be on alert and call the Roanoke County Police Department at (540) 562-3265 immediately if they receive a call like this.

The Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office does NOT call citizens in this manner for jury duty service and will not request citizens to meet with them after-hours.
