The fire was called in by the homeowners who awoke to hear crackling, went to investigate and found smoke coming from the attic. They called 911 and then evacuated the home with their two dogs and two cats.
When volunteer and career fire crews arrived in the 7000 block of Starlight Lane, they reported heavy smoke coming from the attic of a two-story home. It took firefighters from the Cave Spring, Clearbrook, Back Creek, Mount Pleasant, and Fort Lewis stations about an hour to get the blaze under control.
Although the fire was contained to the attic space, there is heavy fire damage to this area as well as significant water damage to the rest of the house.
