SALEM – As part of the Interstate 581 Valley View interchange project in Roanoke, several nighttime traffic changes for Interstate 581 and Hershberger Road are planned for next week.
Nightly Lane Closures
Beginning on Monday, January 19, dual lane closures will be in effect on northbound and southbound I-581 throughout the week from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. These lanes will be closed each night Monday through Saturday morning at 6 a.m. on January 24.
Detour
On Tuesday, January 20, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Valley View traffic on northbound I-581 will be detoured at exit 3C onto westbound Hershberger Road then back onto northbound I-581.
On Wednesday, January 21, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Valley View traffic on southbound I-581 will be detoured at exit 3E onto eastbound Hershberger Road then back onto southbound I-581. The ramp from Hershberger Road leading onto southbound I-581 will be closed. Motorists will need to use the detour to access southbound I-581.
Slow Rolls
Slow roll lane closures will take place on northbound and southbound I-581 on Thursday, January 22, from 12 a.m. until 4 a.m. Friday morning, January 23 and on Friday, January 23, from 12 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 24. During a slow roll, law enforcement will slow and possibly stop traffic as the equipment is being moved. Each slow roll is anticipated to last approximately 15 minutes.
This work is weather and work schedule permitting. Drivers are encouraged to watch for signs and message boards and to use caution as they travel through the work zones. Motorists should expect delays.
