[ARCHIVED] Back scanning of real estate documents

The Clerk's Office is proud to announce that we have contracted with Virtual Image Technology of Charlotte, NC to convert our office's 1968-1999 microfilmed real estate records to digital images which we will then merge into our current SCV imaging/indexing system over the next four months.
As the converted images are forwarded to us via DVD on a bi-monthly basis, we will enter them into our existing system in reverse date order, beginning with our 1999 records and continuing with this process until we have completed loading all of them back to 1968.
Not only will this allow for easier access to these documents in our record room, but it will also make our Secure Remote Access (SRA) system increasingly valuable to our subscribers, allowing for a remote forty-seven year title search by August.
For the long term, our record room has been pre-wired for the installation of computer stations as we phase out of microfilmed records and eventually replace most of our microfilm readers with computer/printers over the next few years.
Most importantly, these improvements will be achieved under budget and using funds generated via our combined SRA and TTF(Technology Trust Fund) accounts, thus at no cost to Roanoke County taxpayers.
