[ARCHIVED] Police Make Arrest After Car Break-In Investigation - Crime analysis key to solving crime.

Since November 2014, various fitness centers in the Roanoke Valley have experienced clients’ cars being broken into and their property stolen. In the early morning of March 12, additional vehicle break-ins were reported at the Green Ridge Recreation Center in Roanoke County.
The Roanoke County Police Department's Crime Analyst, using information from the past offenses and information provided by investigators, determined that the suspect typically struck early in the morning and then late in the evening. Using this information, evening shift supervisors coordinated efforts to provide extra coverage in the areas of the fitness centers.
In the evening of March 12, Mark Anthony Martin, 51, of Washington, D.C., was stopped in a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle found in surveillance video from previous incidents. Martin was stopped in the area of Gold's Gym on Electric Rd.
Subsequent investigation determined that Martin was a fugitive from South Carolina. He was arrested for being a fugitive from justice. He has been connected to the vehicle break-ins and charges are pending.
While this suspect was apprehended, police caution people to remain vigilant in observing their surroundings and to report any unusual activity.
