April 2, 2015 (ROANOKE COUNTY) –Roanoke County Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to the 7400 block of Waldrond Drive at 6:15 this evening for a reported structure fire.
When firefighters arrived, they reported heavy smoke coming for the side of a two-story wood structure. This structure has an apartment on the second floor. It took career and volunteer crews from the Hollins and North County, along with a city engine crew about 12 minutes to get the flames under control.
Two men escaped through a second floor on the back of the apartment by climbing down a ladder. The men were not injured and no injuries were reported on scene.
One cat was rescued and a second cat is unaccounted for at this time.
Investigators are on the scene.
Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the occupants who are displaced.
